Sterling
Heights The Detroit Schwaben
Unter-stützungsVerein held its Member/Family Picnic last month at the Dodge
Park in Sterling Heights.
The weather was
great; hot and slightly muggy; but for the ,diehards', like the
UnterstützungsVerein members, it was good to be outside. The attending
members enjoyed the camaraderie and get together.
Remember, our
meetings are only 4 times a year; so we take any opportunity to get
together.
The picnic started
at 2:00pm at the Pavilion I of the Sterling Heights Dodge Park. President
Rosch, just out of the hospital for that day, greeted the members and their
families, and then around 4pm our Barbeque Chef Walter Rothenberger started
the grilling of the Bratwurst to perfection. Winter Sausage Company makes
the best Bratwurst. Naturally there were condiments and buns to go along.
Our members brought various salads, like potato salad, pasta salad,
vegetable tray with dip, and lots of dessert.
Our guests for
this Picnic were the Ann Arbor Schwaben Verein Art French and Fritz Bosch. A
hearty welcome received the Mayor from Warren, James Fouts. He spent lots of
his time conversing with President Rosch.
Unfortunately the
weather around 5:30pm started to get windy and the rain came down in
buckets. Hastily the Board of the Verein and the members helped gather all
the equipment and things together to stow in various cars and SUV's.
Not many children
attended this picnic. Thanks to Walter and Aileen Rist who came all the way
from Kalamazoo; Gary and Yvonne Boelstler who came from Lexington. Diane
Foreman, Hans and Gertrude Daschner who came from Prudenville. All in all it
was a wonderful and gemütlich picnic. Everybody stated that, even though the
weather did not cooperate, they had a marvelous time and were glad to be at
this picnic and are looking forward to next year's.
