Ann Arbor - On June 22. 2013, 130 Members settled down for an
Evening of Celebration, this being the 125th Anniversary of our founding.
President Arthur French announced that the wine glass at each place was a
gift from the Verein to each guest. He also pointed out the red-covered
booklet giving the club’s history. The flowers on each table were to be
given to the youngest lady at the table to take home at the end of the
evening. The Reverend Orval L. E. Willimann was asked to give the
Invocation. However, before he did, he made a toast to all our members who
had passed before. Rev. Willimann is a life member of our Verein and a
retired Minister from Bethlehem Church in Ann Arbor. The dinner was then
served. It started with Shrimp Cocktail, Goat Cheese Salad, then Prime Rib
of Beef or Swordfish. Followed by dessert. After dinner the festivities
resumed. All present were asked to rise for the singing of our three
National Hymns. The Star Spangled Banner, The Deutsche National Hymne and
Das Lied der Schwaben.
President French then asked each member to come forward to receive an
Anniversary Stein. He then asked the Ehrenmitglied to come forward and
receive a Commemorative Drinking Boot. There were then remarks by Frederick
W. Hoffman, Honory Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany. Wally Jarvis,
Vice-President of the German Park recreation Club, and Maria Multzer
President of the German-American Club of Plymouth. Hubert Rosch, President
of the Detroit Schwäbischer Unterstützungs Vereins and Klaus Kummer,
President of GBU #630 in Ann Arbor, each presented the Ann Arbor club with
beautiful Banners from their respective clubs. Each head of visiting clubs
also received an Anniversary Boot. John Jarvis, Vice-President of Ann
Arbor asked if he might say a few words. He along with Secretary Walter
Hahn then presented President French with a certificate from the Verein
honoring him for servicing Ann Arbor as its President for thirty -five
Years. It is a humbling experience to be so honored. This ended the formal
part of the evening. The rest of the time was spent in dancing,
conversation and merriment.
