Germania Club Downriver celebrates Christmas

“Grandma Denise” read ‚The Night Before Christmas‘ to the children

Brownstown, MI - Germania Members and guests celebrated the event in a very festive atmosphere.  The hall was beautifully decorated in the Christmas Spirit. We were entertained with melodies of Christmas by our own Natale Emanuele who led us in a sing-along with his accordion.  Busy preparing snacks and setting up the delicious cookie plates were Denise Lucas, Jean Ungar, Katie Baganz and Ruth Speer.  Steve Aytes took care of the Ausschank.  We had a special treat of Glühwein and Feuerzangenbowle prepared by Sabine Aytes and Wendy Floyd.

Adults were given a chance to play Christmas Trivia games prepared by Deanna Buckingham with prizes awarded.  Our “Grandma Denise” read The Night Before Christmas to the children who listened in awe by the Christmas tree.  Then, “Ho, Ho, Ho” Santa appeared in his sled pulled by his reindeer.  Every child had a chance to speak to Santa.  What a thrill!!  There were also craft and coloring activities for the children.

The afternoon ended in Frohsinn and true Germania Gemütlichkeit.  We all weathered the thick blanket of snow we have become accustomed to, living in the beautiful “Michigan Winter Wonderland!”  We are looking forward to next year’s celebrations.  Our next event will be Mardi Gras on February 8, 2014.
