Carpathia Choir visited the Toledo Teutonia Choirs

Thanks to Carpathia Choir-Director Erwin Aufdemberge and piano accompanist Lisa Meredith, the Choir was well prepared and their performance was well received.

Toledo - The Carpathia Choir received an invitation from the Toledo Teutonia Männer and Damen Chor to participate in their Spring Concert. This wonderful invitation was presented to the choir members and it was decided that after a long, hard winter everybody wanted to go.  A bus trip was arranged by Mrs. Blondine Klimach, and on April the 26th at 4:00 pm we departed from the Carpathia Club. Our group was well represented with 40 singers and a few guests onboard. It turned out to be a beautiful day that made for an enjoyable bus ride. We arrived in Toledo at about 5:30 pm. The club doors were open and we received a very warm welcome.

Shortly thereafter, a delicious dinner was served, consisting of Chicken Cordon Bleu, California mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes and a beautiful green salad. Dessert was a wonderful selection of cake and coffee.

Following dinner, the concert began with the Toledo Choirs performing. After a short intermission, the Carpathia Choir took the stage. Thanks to our Director, Mr. Erwin Aufdemberge, and our piano accompanist, Mrs. Lisa Meredith, we were well prepared and our performance was well received. After completing our individual program, we performed two additional pieces as a mass choir with the Teutonia Männerchor und Damenchor, along with the Maumee Community Band Brass Ensemble. The first piece was “Sine Nomine” under the direction of Mr. Eric Graber, the Director of the Teutonia Choirs. The second piece was “Go Ye Now In Peace” under the direction our own director, Mr. Erwin Aufdemberge.  At the conclusion of the concert, a Band called “Encore” played some familiar tunes, to which most of choir members were singing along with and dancing to. It was a very enjoyable evening.

At about 11:00 pm, it was, unfortunately, time to say good bye to our hosts and head back to our own club.  Before heading out, the Carpathia Choir assembled and we sang our parting song: “Als Freunde kamen, wir, als Freunde gehen wir.” This song says it all:  As friends we came, and as friend we go. I am sure that for many days to come we will reminisce about this wonderful trip to Toledo, Ohio.  As for me, I am proud to be a part of this choir.

Michael  Schleis,

Carpathia Chor Leiter

At the conclusion of the concert, the Band “Encore” played some familiar tunes, to which most choir members were singing along with and dancing to including Judy and Erwin Aufdemberge.
