Germania Club Downriver’s annual Oktoberfest was a huge success

Brownstown - Germania Club Downriver’s Oktoberfest, was a huge success.

The Hall was packed with happy revelers enjoying German food, music, beer and contests.  The Hall was decorated with a combination of Fall haystacks, pumpkins and hay bales – as well as the traditional blue and white diamond motif of the Bavarian Flag.

The Rhinelanders played from 7:30pm-11:30pm for listening and dancing pleasure.  They led the ever-popular Schnitzelbank sing-along with assistance from Edsel Ford High School’s German teacher, Herr Sedore.

The kitchen was kept hopping with hungry guests enjoying delicious German favorites such as bratwurst, sauerkraut, schnitzel, giant soft pretzels, and more.

The Downriver Derby Dollz were a smash serving up hot food and cold drinks – we are so grateful to Bridge da Gap and her team of awesome ladies!!!.

There were three different German beers on tap, a long list of bottled German beers as well as some domestic Oktoberfest styles.  Many guests took part in our popular “shot-ski” challenge with Jagermeister.  Our youngest visitors enjoyed “Haunted Hayrides” around the property, courtesy of Natale Emanuele and his tractor.

The first contest was our version of Masskrugstemmen, a stein-holding test of strength.  Our contestants held a pitcher full of water at arms’ length for as long as possible, without spilling.  The winner was David Haener, who outlasted 15 others to take the prize.  The next contest was a women’s yodeling contest which was won by Stephanie Scheuermann.  Stephen Sedore won the third contest, which was an informal men’s Schuplattler (dance) competition.

We thank all those who put in many hours of their time to bring about a successful and fun time for our Members and Guests.
