Waldfest der Toledo Schwaben

Friends enjoying the refreshments at the Waldfest in Oregon, Ohio.

Sunday July 24, was a hot and sultry day at the “Oak Shade Grove” in Oregon Ohio. That however did not stop the Toledo Schwabenverein from having their Waldfest activities.

We enjoyed the music of the Jay Fox Band and with the help of a few cold beers many different foods were enjoyed including the typical German foods consisting of several types of sausages, potato salad, pork hocks, sauerkraut, pretzels, landjäger and desserts. The warm weather did however reduce the hot coffee consumption.

A welcome ceremony included the seven societies that make up the GAF (German American Festival) Association; it was followed by German ethnic dancing from the Bavarian Schuhplattlers. A good time was had by all with the festivities ending at 8 PM.   The Schwabenverein will hold its annual Kirchweih festival on Sunday, November 6 at the Oak Shade Hall to which everyone is invited.                  S.H.
