On Saturday, March 3, the Toledo Schwabenverein rented a bus and joined the
Ann Arbor Schwabenverein in Saline Michigan to celebrate their annual
Bockbierfest. The evening included great German food, music and of
course Gemütlichkeit. The Toledo Verein held their Bockbier Fest three weeks
later, on March 25, at the Oak Shade Grove in Oregon Ohio. The highlights of
the occasion were the food, music and of course the Bockbier.
Historians are certain that Bockbier was first brewed in the city of
Einbeck in northern Germany as early as 1325. It was later also brewed by
the monks in Munich. This special Bier is normally associated with special
occasions such as Christmas, Easter and Lent. There is no proof that
Bockbier was originated by the Schwaben, specially the idea that
Bockbier was old leftover brew that they were too frugal to throw
The Toledo Schwaben-verein Waldfest is scheduled for July 22 at the
Oak Shade Grove in Organ, OH. Everyone is invited to join us for a relaxing
afternoon of food, music, beer and fun.
