Toledo Schwabenverein celebrated Bockbier

On Saturday, March 3, the Toledo Schwabenverein rented a bus and joined the Ann Arbor Schwabenverein in Saline Michigan to celebrate their annual Bockbierfest. The evening included great German food, music and of course Gemütlichkeit. The Toledo Verein held their Bockbier Fest three weeks later, on March 25, at the Oak Shade Grove in Oregon Ohio. The highlights of the occasion were the food, music and of course the Bockbier.

Historians are certain that Bockbier was first brewed in the city of Einbeck in northern Germany as early as 1325. It was later also brewed by the monks in Munich. This special Bier is normally associated with special occasions such as Christmas, Easter and Lent.  There is no proof that Bockbier was originated by the Schwaben, specially the idea that Bockbier was old leftover brew that they were too frugal to throw away.

The Toledo Schwaben-verein Waldfest is scheduled for July 22 at the Oak Shade Grove in Organ, OH. Everyone is invited to join us for a relaxing afternoon of food, music, beer and fun.
